Adoption stories
Seven Bitcoin-only conferences across Africa in 2026: dates, registration links, and why each one matters.
Africa is not waiting for permission to adopt Bitcoin. From Francophone West Africa to East Africa's Silicon Savannah to Southern Africa's growing circular economy network, Bitcoin builders, educators, merchants, and community leaders are gathering, sharing knowledge, and doing the work on the ground.
The 2026 events calendar is the clearest evidence yet. This is not a theory, but a proof of spread.
This guide covers every confirmed major Bitcoin-only conference across Africa in 2026, verified from official sources, with accurate descriptions, registration links, and context on why each event matters.

Dates: April 17–19, 2026 Venue: Azalaï Hotel, Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso Language: Primarily French, with some English sessions Register: afriquebitcoin.org
Conference Bitcoin Afrique (CBA) is the largest Bitcoin-only conference serving Francophone Africa, bringing together builders, educators, entrepreneurs, and policymakers from across the Sahel and beyond for three days of education, strategy, and community building.
The conference was founded with a clear long-term vision: to create a continent-wide Bitcoin educational platform for French-speaking Africa, and to rotate the event across different Francophone countries in future editions. It draws direct inspiration from Bitcoin Mastermind in Benin and the Dakar Bitcoin Days in Senegal, building on the groundwork those events laid.
For anyone building products or communities in French-speaking African markets, this is the most important gathering on the continent. Monetary instability and limited financial access across the Sahel region make Bitcoin adoption a practical necessity rather than an ideological choice, and this conference is where those realities are discussed openly by the people living them.
A Lightning Developer Bootcamp runs from April 13 to 17 immediately before the main conference, giving technical attendees an immersive lead-in before the broader event begins.
Who should attend: Bitcoin educators, community builders, developers, and anyone building for Francophone African markets.

Location: Benin, West Africa Dates: July 3, 2026 Website: btcmastermind.xyz
Bitcoin Mastermind is an annual Bitcoin conference held in Benin, organised by Loic Kassamoto and Alphonse Mehoume, focused specifically on convening the French-speaking Bitcoin community across West Africa.
It is not a broad industry event. Bitcoin Mastermind is intentionally focused on grassroots adoption, bringing together community leaders working on merchant onboarding, Bitcoin education, and the operational realities of building circular economies in Francophone Africa.
Bitcoin Mastermind has been described as one of the foundational events that created the conditions for larger Francophone gatherings like Conference Bitcoin Afrique to emerge. That context matters: it is a builders-first, community-first event, not a stage-and-keynote conference.
Who should attend: Community leaders, circular economy builders, educators, and anyone doing grassroots Bitcoin adoption work in Francophone West Africa.

Dates: June 17–20, 2026 Venue: Pride Inn Azure Towers, Nairobi, Kenya Tickets: btcplusplus.dev/conf/nairobi
bitcoin++ Nairobi is a developer-first Bitcoin conference and the first ever open source edition of the bitcoin++ series, which has previously run in Austin, Berlin, and Riga. This Nairobi edition was built in partnership with local organisers, including BitDevs Nairobi, and is specifically designed to shine a light on open source contributors and developers from Africa and around the globe who are reshaping the Bitcoin protocol ecosystem.
Four days of building, workshops, talks, and working in public. The format is less stage, more terminal. If you are writing code, contributing to Bitcoin open source projects, or building Lightning infrastructure, this is where you get direct feedback from people who understand what you are building at a protocol level.
African citizens get a discounted ticket at $65, reflecting the event's genuine commitment to local participation rather than just international attendance.
Who should attend: Bitcoin developers, open source contributors, Lightning builders, and anyone working on Bitcoin infrastructure.

Dates: June 24–26, 2026 Venue: A.S.K. Dome, Jamhuri Park, Nairobi, Kenya Organised by: Afribit Register: ke26.adoptingbitcoin.org Contact: nairobi@adoptingbitcoin.org
Adopting Bitcoin Nairobi is the first ever edition of the Adopting Bitcoin conference series in East Africa, built by East Africans for East Africans. The conference is organised by the Afribit team, with advisors including Kemal and design_sats from Blink Wallet, and speakers including Hermann Buhr-Vivier of Bitcoin Ekasi, Kgothatso Ngako of Machankura, Erik Hersman of Gridless, and Josef Tetek of Trezor Academy.
The conference runs across three days. June 24 and 25 are the main conference days at the A.S.K. Dome. June 26 is the Bitcoin Valley Experience, a guided visit to Kibera's functioning Bitcoin circular economy, where delegates see real adoption in action rather than hearing about it from a stage. Over 30 homegrown Bitcoin projects from Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Rwanda, Burundi, South Sudan, and DR Congo will be showcased.
Kenya's experience with M-Pesa has given the country a population already comfortable with digital, phone-based payments. Bitcoin adoption here is not starting from scratch. This conference exists at the intersection of that existing infrastructure and Bitcoin's potential to take it further.
Who should attend: Builders, policymakers, merchants, community leaders, and anyone interested in East Africa's Bitcoin ecosystem.

Dates: December 2–5, 2026 Venue: Blantyre, Malawi Website: afrobitcoin.org Contact: contact@afrobitcoin.org
The Africa Bitcoin Conference (ABC) is the largest and most established annual Bitcoin-only event on the African continent. Each year, it brings together activists, innovators, decision-makers, developers, and everyday Bitcoin users from across all 54 African nations to explore how Bitcoin safeguards fundamental freedoms, strengthens economic autonomy, and enables grassroots financial inclusion.
Previous editions have been held in Ghana and South Africa, and the 2026 edition moves to Blantyre, Malawi, reflecting the conference's genuine commitment to rotating across the continent and amplifying African voices beyond the obvious hubs. Previous speakers have included Alex Gladstein of the Human Rights Foundation, Jack Dorsey of Block, Obi Nwosu of Fedi, Lorraine Marcel of Bitcoin Dada, and Abubakar Nur Khalil of Btrust.
The ABC is not just a conference. It runs the Afro Bitcoin Fellowship, a programme supporting African Bitcoin builders, and the ABC Diaspora programme connecting African Bitcoiners globally. It has become the benchmark that other African Bitcoin conferences measure themselves against.
Who should attend: Everyone. This is the broadest, most inclusive Bitcoin event on the continent, welcoming activists, educators, merchants, developers, and curious newcomers alike.

Organised by: Naija Bitcoin Organisation (NBO) Location: Lagos, Nigeria 2026 dates: To be announced Website: naijabitcoin.org Contact: contact@naijabitcoin.org
Nigeria is one of the most active Bitcoin markets on the entire continent. The Naija Bitcoin Conference, run by the Naija Bitcoin Organisation, is the country's flagship Bitcoin-only event, bringing together developers, educators, merchants, policymakers, and everyday Bitcoin users in Lagos to accelerate national adoption.
The NBO is not just a conference organiser. It runs the Nigerian Women Bitcoiners educational programme, distributes Bitcoin point-of-sale devices to local merchants, works with public sector institutions to promote structured Bitcoin education, and has built a growing ecosystem of partners across Nigeria. The conference is the centrepiece of that broader mission, which the team describes as building a global media engine on Bitcoin.
The 2026 edition date has not yet been announced at the time of publishing.

Dates: February 2027 Venue: V&A Waterfront, Cape Town, South Africa Website: za26.adoptingbitcoin.org
The Adopting Bitcoin Cape Town conference anchors the southern African Bitcoin calendar. Cape Town has emerged as a regional hub for Bitcoin activity, home to a growing ecosystem of circular economies, merchant adoption initiatives, and developer communities.
The 2026 edition, held in January 2026, brought together the Bitcoin circular economy and community builders from across the continent. It hosted the very first African Bitcoin Circular Economy Summit, which was a strong signal as well.
The 2027 edition is already worth calendaring to avoid the logistics crunch that comes as the date gets closer.
Who should attend: Southern African community leaders, merchants, educators, and anyone connected to the growing Bitcoin ecosystem in Africa and the broader region.

These seven events are not isolated gatherings. Together, they form a continent-wide infrastructure for Bitcoin adoption, touching every major linguistic region, every level of technical depth, and every type of participant from first-time Bitcoin users in Kibera to open source protocol contributors in Nairobi.
Africa is not one market. Each region has its own language, regulatory context, economic pressures, and Bitcoin maturity level. A builder who shows up across these events exits 2026 with a continent-wide network, a direct relationship with the communities that will use what they build, and a clearer picture of where real adoption is actually happening.
